Mark Leiren-Young WRITER/DIRECTOR/PRODUCER

 

“Canada’s go to guy for dolphins, whales and trees” (The National Post) Mark is Canada’s greenest writer. His award-winning feature film, The Green Chain, (which he wrote, directed and produced) is currently playing on TMN and Movie Central. His new book -- The Green Chain -- Nothing is Ever Clear Cut was just released by Heritage House. The book collects some of his best interviews from his Green Chain podcast series for Canada’s top on-line -- The Tyee dealing with forestry issues and the environment. Here’s the podcast series on iTunes.  His gold medal-winning short comedy film, The Green Film is currently playing festivals around the world.

Mark toured Canada as half of the satirical duo, Local Anxiety, and wrote, produced and co-starred in the TV comedy special, Greenpieces for VTV/Green Channel/PBS - which received an EarthVision Award for, “Excellence in Environmental Programming.” Local Anxiety’s new CD - Greenpieces -- is being released in December. Local Anxiety’s music is available on iTunes.

Mark was the recipient of the 2009 Stephen Leacock Medal for Humour for his best-selling comic memoir Never Shoot a Stampede Queen -- Adventures of a Rookie Reporter.

Mark was a story editor and writer for the Lifetime TV series  Blood Ties. He has also written for The CollectorPsi Factor, the CBC documentary series Life and Times and a lot of very cool cartoons and kid’s shows including - ReBoot; Transformers: Beast Wars, Ace Lightning, Class of the Titans, Pucca, Stickin’ Around and YTV’s new hit series. RollBots. A lifelong comic book fan, he has also written scripts for an hour long live action drama in development with No Equal Entertainment, based on the Marvel comic superhero, Moon Knight.

An award-winning journalist, Mark has written for such publications as Time Magazine, Maclean’s and The Utne Reader and he’s a regular contributor to The Georgia Straight and The Tyee.

Tony Wosk/Middle Child Films Inc. PRODUCER
Born and raised in Vancouver, Tony Wosk is currently Executive in Charge of Production, TV Comedy for CBC Television. Previously Tony was the  Director of Acquisitions & Development for English Canada for Christal Films Distribution after spending almost six years with Telefilm Canada as the Senior Investment Analyst (development, production, distribution) for the feature film business unit.
Tony holds a Master of Business Administration degree (MBA) from York University's Schulich School of Business and a BA from the University of Western Ontario.
Before moving to Toronto and joining the film industry Tony spent time as a Commercial Banking Manger with Scotiabank in British Columbia, and as a Marketing Consultant with WIC Television in Vancouver.
The Green Chain is Middle Child Films first production.

Donna Wong-Juliani EXECUTIVE PRODUCER
Donna Wong-Juliani has had a life-long passion for and commitment to the arts and to activities that focus on the betterment of society. Throughout her life she has been a participant in and producer of artistic work and projects that enhance the community. Her first hand knowledge of dance, theatre, television and film disciplines and her ongoing commitment to the encouragement and development of artists working in all these fields has led her to play roles in ventures that are varied and wide-ranging, from feature film producer, to senior manager of a film crown corporation, from representatives of writers, directors and composers, to administrator of non-profit organizations.
With her husband, John Juliani, Donna ran Savage God, one of Canada’s first – and most influential – alternative theatre companies. Donna produced the acclaimed feature film, Latitude 55 (nominated for 6 Genie awards), worked at Telefilm and served as a literary agent for some of western Canada’s top writers and directors.
She is the general director and founding board member of Opera Breve and the artistic associate -- in charge of creating and programming cultural events -- at Vancouver’s Christ Church Cathedral.

James Des Roches CO-PRODUCER
James Des Roches has been making motion pictures for over 20 years. He studied at the Canadian Film Centre in the New Media Programme and has a specialist degree in film theory and criticism from the University of Toronto. He has worked with some of Canada’s’ pre-eminent media companies in their fields, including Reunion Pictures, the CBC, Alliance Atlantis, Dufferin Gate Pictures, Pebblehut, Chesler/Perlmutter, Imagine Entertainment, Avion Films, Blink pictures and Radke Films.
James is a member of the Directors’ Guild of Canada, the Writers’ Guild of Canada, and most recently ACFC West. He is a past member of the Ontario Section 21 Committee for Health and Safety in the Film Industry.

Kirk Tougas CINEMATOGRAPHER
With over a hundred productions to his credit, Kirk Tougas is one of Canada's foremost documentary cinematographers.
Working with independent producers, broadcasters, and the NFB, he has shot on location throughout Canada, the Arctic and the United States, as well as Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia. CBC, PBS, TVO, Global, Discovery, the History Channel, BBC, Channel Four, ITV, Australian and Finnish Broadcasting have broadcast his work. These productions have received over 35 prizes at international festivals, including Berlin, Toronto, Nyon, Houston, New York and San Francisco, an Emmy Award, and in Canada, three Genie Awards and two Gemini nominations.
He has worked with George Ungar on The Champagne Safari, with Nettie Wild on Blockade, A Place Called Chiapas, Fix: The Story Of An Addicted City and A Rustling Of Leaves, Inside the Philippine Revolution, with directors Mark Achbar and Jennifer Abbott on The Corporation and Peter Wintonick on Manufacturing Consent - Noam Chomsky and the Media. Working with director Gary Marcuse, the production The Mind Of A Child received the Canada Award at the Gemini Awards. Kirk also shot Gerrie and Louise with Sturla Gunnarson in South Africa, which received the 1997 Emmy Award for International Documentary.
In 1990, Kirk was awarded "Best Documentary Cinematographer" by the Canadian Society of Cinematographers, and in 1996, the Leo for Best Cinematography.

Jana Fritsch EDITOR
Jana Fritsch studied Film Editing at the Film Academy (FAMU) in Prague, an internationally recognized film school. She started her professional career as a film editor in the TV National Network Studio in Prague. In 1968, on the eve of the invasion of Czechoslovakia by Russian armies, Jana left her home to immigrate to Canada.
Her Vancouver company, Montage Editing Limited, has provided complete postproduction services in drama, documentary, industrial projects and TV commercials for over 30 years in Canada, the United States and Europe.
Jana has received recognition for her creative and innovative talents in picture editing and project management and continues to maintain a high level of technical expertise with Avid, Lightworks, Final Cut Pro, Visual Effects and HD.
